Podcast 041, with Tyler Holtman

July 29, 2010

Hey, remember film school? My guest Tyler Holtman does; he just graduated. We talk about the lessons we learned, the movies we made, and the horrible films we had to endure from other students.  I’ll also read a bit of fan mail, and compare some college movies to the actual college experience.

Notes:

Upon listening to this again, it almost seems like I’m saying Animal House and Van Wilder are of equal comedic value. For the record, it is a mistake to suggest these are even close to the same playing field. John Belushi > Dog Semen Jokes.

You’re welcome, Ryan.

And apologies to Scorcese for not correctly naming that movie I’ve never seen before: Bringing Out The Dead.

Podcast 039, with Matt Schulman

July 22, 2010

Experience a carnival of movie games as Matt Schulman once again visits the podcast studio. We also try to talk about our favorite directors, but unsurprisingly, that doesn’t exactly go as planned.

Notes:

Matt continues to call and text me with additional directors he wants to talk about.

Also, we allude to the fact that this show has a few edits. Believe me, the show would have been about ten minutes longer with extraordinarily long awkward silences as we tried to think of shitty movies we’d never seen before. I promise you, you didn’t miss anything.

Notes:

Much, much less of a hassle converting the audio from my video camera to the computer.  If the recording sounds strange, it’s your fault.

Also, I think at some point I say “bucket of worms”, which I’m fairly certain is not a real phrase.  Then again, I may have said this in the next episode. I recorded two in a day and can’t recall which was which. Too lazy to re-listen.

Podcast 037, with Robbie Starr

July 15, 2010

I felt like crap last night, but still managed to drag Robbie over for a painfully under-prepared episode about plant movies and math movies. Brace yourself for our thoughts on the explosive new Mel Gibson audio, and also prepare for long tangents about spoons and kosher food.

Notes:

Hey, they can’t all be gems, right?

Definitely need to figure out a way to balance two jobs and two weekly podcasts. Another rush job, apologies for the low energy. Also apologies for any audio issues, didn’t really have time to double check everything.

I have enjoyed cutting in clips from outside sources though… hopefully I’ll find other ways to mix up the show from time to time.

There Will Be Spoilers, Episode 035

Notes:

Whew, recorded this one just in time– literally last night.

Also, in defense of M. Night Shyamalan, I read and sympathize with a quote he said in a recent interview about poor Airbender reviews: “It must be a language thing, in terms of a particular accent, a storytelling accent. I can only see it this certain way and I don’t know how to think in another language […] I think these are exactly the visions that are in my head, so I don’t know how to adjust it without being me. It would be like asking a painter to change to a completely different style. I don’t know.”

I mean, it’s true that I’ve strongly disliked most of his movies and think he’s kind of a pompous ass, but at the same time, this is just kind of who he is and the types of movies he likes to make. He might be deluded, but he’s not the only one.
