Notes:

I would like to arrange for a series of monthly screenings where we watch classic movies backed by a commentary track by Alex. I don’t think that would ever get old.

In fact, I think my life goal is to just own a place with Alex, and have him talk to me during each screening. *sigh* I miss college.

Podcast 031, with Taylor Sternberg

June 24, 2010

Broadway sensation Taylor Sternberg joins me in my final New York episode. We catch up on the good ol’ days, and have a semi-pretentious conversation about hyper-realism in movie musicals and comic book movies.

Just before taping this podcast, I ate a fucking Elk Burger. It was incredible.

Also, new intro!! Awesome, right? I know.

Podcast 030, with Paul Travisano

My friend Paul Travisano agreed to record a podcast after showing me around the fine city of Brooklyn. We talk about the movies that inspire us, and then Paul blows my mind with the greatest film entrance of all time.

Notes:

Sorry if this episode sounds a bit quiet. We tried to fix it in post, but no such luck. Just turn it up a bit, there’s no loud noises… at least that I can remember right now.

Oh yeah, later that night, Paul, Brett and I watched The Dark Knight.  Just uhh, wanted to remind you that it’s awesome.

Podcast 029, with Brett and Joel

June 17, 2010

Joel Sinensky joins me and Brett to wrap up our discussion of New York movies. We also talk about shitty hipster films, and try to get a handle on the Manic Pixie Dreamgirl.

There Will Be Spoilers, Episode 029

Notes:

One of the biggest highlights of my trip was sitting at the top of Yankee Stadium, seeing the Bronx neighborhood in the background and letting the cool breeze blow over me.  Back at Brett’s apartment no such breeze existed, so I didn’t really feel like leaving the room with the fans. If the audio is a bit strange, it’s because I insisted we record on the couches this time.

Also, at one point Brett goes from talking about Angels in the Outfield to 3rd Rock From The Sun in about a nano-millisecond… even after multiple re-listens, I still have no fucking clue what he is talking about or why his mind went to 3rd Rock in the middle of a conversation about baseball.

Notes:

Big thanks to Brett for letting me record four separate episodes at his apartment while I was on vacation. This one was recorded about 36 hours after I landed… many great times still to come.

Podcast 027, with Robbie Starr

June 10, 2010

Robbie Starr returns for episode 33 because seriously, we still have more trilogy bullshit to hash out. We also chat about The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, and try to remember movies that take place in Texas.

Notes:

Robbie, you should be ashamed of yourself for that sign off.

Also, I think it’s obvious we need to write the next Mighty Ducks movie.

Podcast 026– err, another Nice Guys’ Book Club

June 7, 2010

Due to Episode 026’s controversial nature, my co-hosts have politely asked me to take the podcast down. For those of you who caught it while it was up for 2 hours, sorry that my guests ate so loudly.

In the meantime, the Nice Guys over at Nice Guys’ Book Club asked me to return for the second week in a row; this time recording from the West Coast studio. You’ll hear a bit more about my New York trip, and also great segments like Douchebag Thought of the Week, Stupid Headlines, and of course Hot Guys!!

Podcast 027 will be up on Thursday.

Podcast 025, with Sean Novak

June 3, 2010

Please God Do Not Remake This. That’s all I ask. Special guest Sean Novak agrees, and adds a few additional titles to the sacred list of films that should never be fucked with. We also share our thoughts on teaser trailers, and try to predict which classic film Tim Burton will destroy next.

Notes:

This was the second of two episodes I recorded in a single night. Honestly I forgot to write the show summary before I left for New York, and now that I’m finally getting around to updating the post, I have no friggin clue what we talked about. I think there are some things in here I wanted to comment on… but I guess mostly I’m just glad to finally have Sean on the show.

*sigh* I’ll come back and update this section later.

Podcast 024, with James Hart

June 1, 2010

Music maestro James Hart and I get to know each other by going over our Top 5 Favorite Films of All Time. We have a good chat about movie music, and I’m glad to say by the end of the show I’ve made a new friend. Also it’s very possible I’ll try to read “Naked Lunch” for the fifth or sixth time.

Notes:

As I stated in the podcast, I kind of liked the idea of doing a show with someone I didn’t necessarily know all that well. James happened to be visiting my roommate Joti for the evening, and prior to this she told me we would probably get along. Actually, this is the first of two podcasts I recorded in a single evening, so I’m pretty proud of that accomplishment as well. Feel free to post your thoughts on any of the movies we discussed.
